Pop superstar Lady Gaga has finally unveiled the music video for her record-breaking “Born This Way,” the lead single from the upcoming album of the same title. In the Nick Knight-directed clip, Gaga reunites with choreographer Laurie Ann Gibson for a science fiction-inspired visual that is truly a Gaga moment.

The history of iconic performers can be traced back to the legacy of Sammy Davis Jr., who broke racial barriers with his show-stopping ventures through music, television and film. James Brown‘s legendary stage presence and dance innovations not only made millions move, but challenged the issues and problems that plagued Civil Rights-era America. Later, the world became more united and changed through the impact of Michael Jackson, who conquered all genres of music and aspects of world pop culture.
If it were not for their contributions, the history of music and the world alike would not have ever been the same. They were more than just singers and dancers; they were creators of art with a message, mission and dedication to their history.
…Then there was Grace, Gaga, maybe Ms.Fierce on a good day. It was his music that got him noticed, but it was his style that made him a star. Not just a star but THE Star. Put simply, David Bowie is fashion. The androgyny, the avant-garde costumes, the makings of the alter-ego personified through Ziggy Stardust. What bowie created was arguably the imprint for every singer who claims to be a performance artist. His style changed the runway. His style changed men who dared to be. His style changed the world.

Mara Hruby is one of those artists that just takes you to another place. Her smooth, pleasant and romantic tone is enough to lift you to the sky. It’s the type of voice that you could listen to for days on end. One of those voices that you get lost in, so much that you ignore the lyrics to the song. A voice that feels so damn good.
To be 100% real with you, I couldn’t give a damn about the Academy Awards. As usual, I wasn’t blown away with the evening’s fashion, BUT there was one woman who should never go without mention. Also as usual, Soul and I could not stop drooling over Halle Berry.

In the current wild world of mainstream music, there are few artists that will be credited as the influences of the superstars of tomorrow. As I review the slim list of singers and performers, one name is almost instant. Janelle Monáe.
There’s a leader at the helm. There’s somewhat of a doctrine seen through runways,editorials, and campaigns alike. We are told what to wear, how to wear it, and when to wear it. Does that make fashion a religion. It is a practice and we do try hard.
Maybe that explains the close relationship of fashion and spirituality. Anna Wintour-Jesus. VOGUE-bible, the runway-the church, and us the believers in something greater than us. Fashion is a connection to the greatest part of us. Its where our dreams lie, our inspiration is seen, and the surreal and the reality blend.

So Adele is set to tour the US. Upon this news, The S.O.M. Team, all two of us were beyond elated to be in the presence of the voice known as Adele. When you really look forward to something, does it ever really happen? In our case no. Cynicism aside, the Philly dates is sold out. I figured maybe it wasn’t meant for me to further indulge in the depression Adele’s music has brought me. That and of course my real life. Anywho I declared I will see her and sing along to every track. A.Jamar and myself are searching high and low for tickets for the other east coast shows.

Beyond his public fiascos and controversies, there is a force. A power that many have yet to realize. For that reason, my defense, understanding and love for Kanye West strengthens with time.

I repeat an unreleased track from Kelis. While Flesh Tone was all about the dance, Guilty goes back to the alternative R&B sound Kelis is known for.
Here in Philly we just got a whiff of Spring weather. Needless to say when I saw Calvin Klein CK S/S 11 Campaign my craving for warmth shot to orbit .Shot by Mert + Marcus, the campaign features a glowing Lara Stone and Liu Wen wearing CK’s ultra clean designs. CK’s minimalist aesthetic is captured in such an insanely stunning manner. I’ve never been one to talk much about beauty, however the make-up is SICK.
