I don’t think the world was ready for the musical loose cannon known as M.I.A. However, on this planet, we can’t get enough.
The purpose of music is not only to give us something to dance to at the club or an anthem to live by when we drown in the sorrows of a failed relationship–its mission is to also represent the provocative individuals who are unafraid to say what we are encouraged to be silent about. And, M.I.A. does just that through her art.
Do not get lost in the sickening production of Kala or catchy melodies of Arular; M.I.A. has consistently tackled the world. Corrupted governments, terrorism and the trials of immigrants are just some of the topics that M.I.A. embraces through her music. Through her revolutionary and fearless artistry, music is safe from monotony and provides a voice for the silenced.
Thank the heavens for M.I.A. Perhaps music is not dead after all.
“Some some some I some I murder/Some I some I let go…”
