BEST OF SERIES: Amy Winehouse Vs. Adele

When you think about some of the most soulful singers that we’ve seen over the past couple of years, it would be foolish to exclude British singers Amy Winehouse and Adele from the list. Forget their contributions to the “blue-eyed soul” movement; these girls can BLOW, period. What is even more scandalous is that both Winehouse and Adele bring more soul and raw emotion than today’s top American R&B singers.

As graduates of the school of legendary singers Etta James, Lauryn Hill and Mary J. Blige, both singers transcend geographic barriers with their vulnerable songs of heartbreak, inner-turmoil and depression that people all over the globe have clutched on to. But when the two are compared, which English chanteuse reigns supreme?

Chrisette Michele – An Explanation Is Needed

As I am one who appreciates those  that strive to inspire and let their artistic integrity reign supreme, what I am not fond of is an album cover that tries so desperately to be powerful. From the font which screams Wild Wild West, the mind puzzling stripes, the make-up, the styling ,and that lifeless expression-it  all comes together to create what could be Chrisette Michele’s worst career move yet.

*dramatics aside* somebody needs to explain why this is?? She’s such a talent, such a voice and a unique presence, yet she continues to do a disservice to herself  both musically and image-wise.

I’m Blaming You Chrisette…

Rihanna Makes The Right Noise In Marie Claire

The LOUD one graces the cover of UK’s Marie Claire December issue. As Rihanna is on the brink of yet another album release, she will be appearing on many a covers I’m sure. Well if this is any indication of the whats to come I’ll be anticipating each and every cover.

Rihanna appears ultra sultry, soft, and feminine yet still maintains her edge all in the eyes. The styling is more safe and vibrant than Rihanna usually goes for, but with a new album comes a new image of course.

Whats her name,you already know…

A Little Inspiration…

After Soul brought this amazing clip to my attention, it has become a daily staple. Taken from the most recent season of BET’s hit gospel series Sunday Best, LeAndria Johnson’s dynamic performance of the classic “Running Back To You” can be appreciated by believers and non-believers alike. Johnson’s monstrous and multi-faceted voice convey the power and emotion behind the lyrics perfectly. If you are need of encouragement or empowerment, this is for you.

Imagine what a complete album of this would be like..

STAR VANITY: Cassie Rocks Fur & Bondage

Obviously Cassie looks AMAZING. The fur, dress, belt, and bondage inspired wedges all come together perfectly and yet again Cassie appears as we have come to expect these days-flawless.  That green coloring on the shoulders is everything. It takes this outfit to orbit.

BTW she was attending Kim Kardashian’s party, she clearly showed her up

A Lauryn Hill Moment Was Needed…

“You love me despite myself, sometimes I fight myself
I just can’t believe that you, would have anything to do
With someone so insecure, someone so immature
Oh you inspire me, to be the higher me”

EDITORIAL: Refined Glamour

Just because I love Sasha Pivovarova. Her face and her eyes are among the most striking of all models. This spread  is all about refined glamour. The overall simplistic tone allows the beauty of the clothes to come through and the precision of the bob takes this spread to the next level.

US VOGUE of course…

ERYKAH BADU.

STAR VANITY: Introducing Mark Ronson

For those unaware, Mark Ronson is an artist, musician, DJ, and style ICON. He also happens to be a brilliant  producer. Such that he is the mastermind behind Amy Winehouse’s Back To BLack LP.Upon seeing this look, I felt it was the perfect time for introductions.

definitely one to know…

Is Justin Timberlake Right?

Introducing Christina Aguilera to the audience at his benefit concert on Saturday night, Justin Timberlake declared:

“with no competition, the best singer of our generation…”

My goodness. What a powerful statement Mr. Sexyback has made! Aguilera certainly has some of the best pipes in the industry but do you agree that she is “the Voice” of our generation?

Rachel Zoe, Say It Ain’t So!

Rachel Zoe, O’how I love thou; The blogosphere and media alike are all a buzz with the speculation that the stylist extraordinaire is expecting. Rachel Zoe with child-can you imagine??? Well if the speculation is indeed true, then what’s to come of The Rachel Zoe Project. That’s all I’m concerned about. I need this show, it’s bad enough it’s only like 9 episodes per season. With that said I’d literally die to see Rachel Zoe with a protruding belly. Flyest pregnant chic for sure.

Had to vent…
