UNHEARD: Christina Aguilera, “All I Need”

While Christina Aguilera‘s latest album Bionic is more famous for being a commercial and critical flop, it still has amazing moments. One of the standout tracks  from the album, “All I Need” is an example of Aguilera’s artistic and vocal versatility. Dedicated to her son, Aguilera’s voice is toned down, tender and dreamy, bringing the touching lyrics to life. It is a rare moment to find a vulnerable Aguilera outside of her powerful and boisterous vocal comfort zone.  Regardless of the general sound of the album or how it performed, “All I Need” is one of Aguilera’s loveliest creations.

NEW MUSIC! Kanye West, “Lost In The World”

A new track, titled “Lost In The World”, believed to appear on Kanye West‘s much anticipated fifth studio album, has surfaced.

Okay, I am having the hardest time trying to write because I am so excited. This song is a perfect example why Mr. West is on a completely different level than any other current rapper. Not because he is the best, per se, but because he continues to reach new levels that other rappers are incapable and too afraid to venture to. His music is so much bigger than Hip-Hop and all popular music for that matter; he is TRULY one of the most important artists of this generation.

About the track: the vulnerability,  the hard-hitting production and Kanye’s genuine lyricism intensify the anticipation I have for the album. I am getting a pleasant combination of old Kanye and the sound that he explored on 808s and Heartbreaks–I could not be happier. No one is doing it quite like Mr. West!

America’s Next Top Model Recap {Ep 04}

{Ann}

True to form, this weeks airing of ANTM model presented the contestants with yet another challenge, one which certainly had all the makings for disaster. However, for  the aspiring models who were able to be one with the shoot,they were indeed able to create a moment. A Moment of  glamor, beauty, and of course high fashion. With this weeks photographer/guest judge Matthew Rolston who has attained quite the reputation for his technique also served as a this weeks Mr. J during the shoot which made the episode all the more interesting.

This weeks shoot had the contestants in a high octane beauty shoot where they were depicted as a Under Water Sea Goddess. Too bad many of them turned out looking like the Underwater Leprechaun (I’m being kind). Conversely there were those photos that were just as inspiring as they were gorgeous. Ann-the Unforgettable 6’2 phenom, Kendel A.K.. the new Oluchi, and Esther, who bought her A-game this week all delivered stunning shots.

The judges and I were in agreement for the most part, as Ann was selected for best photo making it her third consecutive week.   As this weeks episode was all about rising to the top sans all  diversions/distractions, it provided  a great escape and glimpse of what VOGUE Italia represents-the best.  Rihanna’s reign did indeed let up and she was sent home. So until next week…

STAR VANITY:Kelis Is Flesh Leather

Kelis can do NO wrong in my eyes. If she rolled out of bed with her comforter, slippers, and shades of course she’ll still be the flyest to me. Who is on her level when it comes to style, artistry, and all the other ish Kelis represents.

EDITORIAL: Dark Heights

If only I could fly, this would be my destination. This defines a journey,so authentic and I need every piece used. I have a somewhat intense fear of heights, though in this case, my fears have succumbed to the Fashion Gods.

Pharrell Hypnotizes You

Was flipping through channels and came across this performance. Thought it was worth sharing. N.E.R.D. performed their latest offering “Hypnotize You” with their model coven as still stage props. Definitely had a vibe to it.

NEW MUSIC! Faith Evans Featuring Keyshia Cole, “Can’t Stay Away”

Faith Evans calls on R&B star Keyshia Cole to assist her with a new track from the upcoming Something About Faith. “Can’t Stay Away” is a breezy and sexy R&B mid-tempo that is making me excited about the new project.

Faith’s sultry and matured vocals accent the production and arrangements of the track.  I love her voice! HOWEVER… I’m not as crazy about Keyshia’s contribution…she is doing too much and singing WAY too hard. She throws off the relaxed and chill vibe of the song. Damn, Keyshia. Can you calm yourself on ONE song?

Jeez.

What do you think of the song?

Is Rihanna More Famous Than Her Music?

Hate her or love her, there is one thing that can’t be denied about Rihanna–that she is a true superstar. She’s graced the covers of the most prestigious magazines, literally toured all around the world and set some of the biggest fashion trends since she went bad” on her third album.

Just months away from releasing her fifth studio album, LOUD, I can’t help but wonder if this will be the album to prove that Little Miss Sunshine is not just a “singles artist” that many people peg her to be.

LEGEND: An Ode To Black

Not only is it the most slimming, it’s the most powerful. Not only is it the most powerful it’s the most expressive. Not only is it  the most expressive , it’s the consummate alternative. That to mainstream fashion which has formed a style identity too many fall victim to. Black- The image, the staple, the color.

It single-handily defined the grunge movement of the 90’s while more recently it redefined androgyny as seen by Calvin Klein’s latest ad campaign starring Lara Stone. Black allows one’s inner self to become revealed as seen through color. It has long told the story of some of fashions most prolific artist from Karl Largerfeld to Jil Sander.

The Black Suit and the LBD a.k.a. The Little Black Dress will forever remain trends season after season. Black is just as iconic as a Chanel, Balenciaga, and Yves Saint Laurent. It is largely used by designers because of its significance alone.

so much more than just a color…

Rihanna Is Red, Hot and “LOUD” On New Album Cover…

Global phenom Rihanna has released the album art to her newest album, LOUD and I have no complaints.

I love how the album avoids predictability and makes a statement in a simple way. Kudos to whomever created the vision for the cover. Much like the single cover to “Only Girl,” it is artistic interpretation on the vibe of the album and musical direction Ri-Ri is taking on the project.

Can’t wait for November to arrive…

NEW VIDEO! Kelis, “Scream”

The beautiful Kelis has dropped the video for “Scream,” the latest single from her Flesh Tone project.  Like all of Kelis’ work, this video is true art. Kelis manages to be simple and abstract in an engaging and visually-striking way. The video perfectly conveys the message of the song which encourages freedom and individuality…this is a job well done.

On the random, I love Kelis for still releasing music from her stellar Flesh Tone even though it is not as commercially successful as previous efforts. Flesh Tone is a MASTERPIECE and is one of the best albums of 2010. Much like Kelis herself, it is completely underrated. If you are sleeping on it, please wake up.

Kelis=TRUE INSPIRATION

Naomi Gets Violent For Interview

As she covers the latest issue of Interview Magazine, Naomi Campbell appears in what seems to be a  satire on what she has become known for in recent years, being violatel. In a stunning shoot by Mert & Marcus Naomi portrays a femme fatale.
