S.O.M. Rising Star: Introducing Jesse Boykins III

Over the past decade, male R&B has become predictable and monotonous–it’s all about overwhelming sex appeal, Michael Jackson clones and/or being a ‘singer’ in a Hip-Hop rapper.

The day of male R&B singers with actual voices, artistry and soul have become something of the past. But, when I listen to up and coming R&B/Soul singer Jesse Boykins III, I begin to have faith that feel-good, noteworthy male R&B music will make a comeback.

FASHION VS. STYLE: Where Do You Fall?

If style is to fashion what rhythm is to music then how can one have fashion without style.Think of it as Fashion is what you wear and style is why you wear what you wear. There’s many that take fashion and style as one in the same yet, they are distinctly different. Some have a great sense of fashion and no style at all while there are a select few who are able to master having both fashion and style. Fashion is the trends, the campaigns, what is always the now but more importantly the next. It sets the tone for many dictating every piece they put on from head to toe.

Style is deciding what you’ll take from the trends because it fits into who you are and how you desires to  represent yourself.  Style also goes much further than what one wears, it reflects ones view of society, stance politically, and even music tastes at times. In  our culture Fashion is seen much more often than style. Fashion is dictated by others while style can only come from yourself.  Many choose to wear the latest fashions as an effort to be socially accepted and even validated while others opt for the more alternative approach letting who they are transcend through their style. Needless to say I”ll choose the latter.

So are you one with fashion, style, or both???

EDITORIAL: Coco Rocha

If this image did not grab your attention, then you must be blind. Coco Rocha is Canada’s best model import and shows why in this editorial for VOGUE Mexico. The looks are reminiscent of classic style and glamour. This spread clinched me with the shorts suit. I am such a sucker for a woman in a suit. As she is one of the supermodels of today, Ms. Rocha came to life in a new way.  She has so much presence and it transcends perfectly.

…as hot as Mexican sauce

STAR VANITY:2010 Emmy Awards- The Looks That Matter

So the 2010 Primetime Emmy’s came and went. As we are begin this new Awards season there will be dress after dress and some looks will catch my eye while most will not. Well the fashion was everything you’d expect -just as dull and safe as the Emmy’s are. Thankfully there were a  few looks that were worthy enough to feature. And by a few I mean three.

Anna Paquin in Alexander McQueen. This dress is quite award-winning within itself.  The gold epaulette detail is beyond and she is by far the most dazzling of the night. She is armored and ready. She stays rocking McQueen and I see why. It does wonders for her.

So I have no idea who this is. (Just jk) Jane Krakowski has adorned herself in this column Escada dress with belt ,shoulder and hip embellishment. Now this is how one plays it safe and still has a high fashion edge as the same time. She looks great. Don’t you agree???

Ok so not paying any attention whatsoever to Rutina Westley’s hair, make-up, or horrid shoes, lets just focus on the dress. It’s a risk and a risk that she pulls off. The dress has an interesting graphic print that made her stand out. I’d love it separately as a skirt and as top as well. As I said I love looks that are unsafe and unpredictable. *A lil’ easy on the baby oil next time Rutina*

I mean If included the worst dress that would be a 67 page post, I refuse.
